First I thought I would give you a little information about me and my background.
I spent 10 years working 50+ hours a week as a manufacturing analyst after getting my MBA degree, and like many other people out there, realized that I was not happy even though I had achieved what I always envisioned as "The American Dream".
I had the good paying job, nice house in the suburbs, nice cars, and great family. The problem was that I could not stomach the thought of having to keep up the demanding amount of work hours and dedication to my job for the next 40 years in order to maintain my standard of living, let alone save for retirement!
I decided to do something about it and learned about the concept of creating a residual income - income that continues to come in long after performing the work to get it started. I immediately fell in love with this concept - who wouldn't right? The problem was that I was not a singer, or a writer, or an inventor which are usually the only careers that provide the benefit of ongoing residual income.
After several months researching home businesses on the internet, and talking to other home business owners, I began to determine what my options were. Rather than taking the time and financial risk of trying to start my own home business idea from scratch, I decided to focus on the idea of franchising.
The franchise business concept is so powerful in the brick and mortar world, but I did not want to own a traditional store or restuarant, and the start up costs and ongoing royalty payments made it hard for me to justify. I also did not want to get myself into another "job" that would constantly require my involvement and long hours to keep the income flowing - just the scenario I was trying to get out of!
